Whole Mammoth Baby Found in Canada!

Jakarta

A baby mammoth or mammoth fur and intact has been found frozen in the permafrost of northwest Canada. This is the first discovery in North America.

Reported BBC, this naturally mummified ice age mammoth is thought to be more than 30,000 years old. Its existence was discovered by gold miners in the Klondike region of the Yukon Territory on Tuesday.

The area of discovery belongs to the First Nation Tr’ondek Hwech’in. The Yukon government compared it to the discovery of a baby Russian mammoth in the Siberian ice sheet in 2007.

“It is the most complete mammoth mummy found in North America and only the second to be discovered in the world,” said Yukon paleontologist Grant Zazula.

The baby, thought to be a girl, was given the name Nun cho ga, which means baby big animal in Han. The language was spoken by the Native Americans of the area.

“Nun cho ga is beautiful and one of the most extraordinary mummified ice age animals ever found in the world,” he explained.

It is about the same size as the Siberian baby Lyuba found in 2007, which is about 42,000 years old, the Yukon government said in a press release.

The partial remains of a mammoth cub, named Effie, were discovered in 1948 in a gold mine in neighboring Alaska.

CBC News said Nun cho ga was dug up after a miner. He then called his boss to inspect something his bulldozer hit in the mud at Eureka Creek, south of Dawson City.
