Cruz effort does not prevent defeat vs. Texas

ARLINGTON — Adolis Garcia homered leading off the bottom of the ninth inning, and the Texas Rangers beat the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Saturday.

The Cuban slugger tied Corey Seager as the team’s home run leader with 15 hits from four corners. He found a slider by reliever Kyle Finnegan (2-2), on a 2-2 count, and put the ball into Washington’s bullpen.

Nelson Cruz tied the score with a two-run homer for the Nationals against his old team in the sixth after Nathaniel Lowe had given Texas the lead with a two-round shot in the second.

Garcia defined the duel after catching a fly ball from Venezuelan Keibert Ruiz at the foot of the right field wall in the beginning of the ninth inning. On the run, he caught a line drive from fellow Venezuelan César Hernández for the second out.
