ALCHEVSK – A video reveals the dramatic moment when a missile is fired from a surface-to-air missile system Russia failed to work. The missile reversed course and fired at the system itself.

In video footage circulating, the missile can be seen being fired into the sky—before it spirals through the air and crashes back to where it came from in a massive explosion.

The short video was reportedly shot in the city of Alchevsk, Luhansk region, Ukraine east. The city is under occupation by pro-Moscow separatist forces and is at the forefront of the war.

It was recorded in the early hours of Friday (24/6/2022) when Russian troops reportedly launched missiles to intercept an oncoming Ukrainian airliner.

Local media reports said the fire was raging at the scene not far from a residential building.

The video was originally shared on the Telegram messaging app by the channel Face of Warwho diligentlyposting every military incident since the start of the Russian war in Ukraine.

It was also shared by Rob Lee, Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, who tweeted: “This is reportedly footage of the failed launch of a Russian air defense system missile from Alchevsk, Luhansk Oblast.”
