Two people have been confirmed killed. Several are injured, three of them seriously. Oslo University Hospital has increased its preparedness to the red level.

At 03.06, the operations manager in the Oslo police district, Vidar Pedersen, states that 14 people have been taken to hospital as a result of the shooting.

– I can not say anything more about the extent of their damage, but some of them are seriously injured, he says.

In total, at least 19 people have been sent to hospital and emergency room.

One arrested

At 03.15, operations manager Barstad says that the police assume there is one perpetrator.

– As of now, everything indicates that it was a perpetrator, he says.

The perpetrator was armed with what they describe as a more serious spring, but no shots were fired during the arrest, according to the police.

Police say they have not yet defined it as a terrorist incident.

– We will come back to that eventually.

Ask people to pull away

One of the guests who was inside the pub describes that he was inside the nightclub when he heard shots. He shouted that as many as possible had to get out. When he learned that two had been confirmed dead, he burst into tears.

A witness who was in London told VG that when they heard the shots outside, the staff asked all the guests to lie down.

– We stayed there until the police came in the doors. My boyfriend contributed first aid to one of the injured, he says.

Police have cordoned off large parts of the area, and eyewitnesses have been asked to gather at a nearby hotel.

Police are asking people in the area to pull away.

– It could have been us

Another witness says that he had just arrived at the nightclub when the situation became uneasy.

– There were some who shouted, “Shooting, stop all drinking, go out”, says Jarl Ovesen to VG.

Ovesen tells VG that they were evacuated to the emergency exit, and that he saw several people lying on the ground inside, down, but that the shooting apparently took place outside.

– Da vi kom ut …

He starts to cry.

– It could have been us, we thought.

Held inside a nightclub nearby

There are several nightclubs in the area. VG has talked to bar guests inside Elsker, another nightclub for queers nearby. Guests were held inside with locked doors after the shooting started.

Guests at the César bar also talk about people screaming and running from the area.

– We heard the shots and started running. It was chaotic and confusing. We warned people and asked them to get away, at the same time we did not know how far we had to run until we were safe, says Jan Kristian Hagen, who was a guest at the nightclub.
