Despair drove Eva Klepáčová to jump out of the window, with the child in her arms

Undoubtedly one of the most famous roles of the actress Eva Klepáčová is the eloquent and fearless Káča from the fairy tale Devil’s games, which celebrated an incredible 65 years since its premiere in April this year. The actress’ life was affected by several events that drove her to a desperate act.

Czech actress, presenter, occasional announcer and drummer Eva Klepáčová she had talents for the acting profession, because her father was a dancer in the National Theater and her mother was not only a dancer but also an actress. She graduated from DAMU and then started working at the North Bohemian Theater in Liberec. The film debut came in 1954 in the film At the end of town.

Her husband was an actor and singer from 1958 until her death Josef Zíma (90). And it was this marriage that brought her to the brink of despair several times. First because their fans were besieged by his fans and kept calling them day and night, and even though Zima bravely resisted them, she was very upset mentally. Another blow came soon when her husband was involved in a serious car accident a year after the wedding, in which a man died and the Czech singer and chansonnier Judita Čeřovská was very seriously injured.

After this tragedy, when her husband was finally convicted, she was so bad that she jumped out of the window of their Vinohrady apartment. She held a several-month-old daughter in her hands, but at the last moment her mother managed to snatch her from her arms. The actress jumped up and fortunately led an electric tram line under the windows of the apartment, and although she suffered serious injuries, this fact saved her life.

Although her physical body came together thanks to the care of doctors, the psychological wounds remained and resulted in manic-depressive psychosis. After 1968, like many other actors, she was banned from performing, which was another blow to her, which led to a worsening of her already battered psyche.

Together with her husband Josef Zíma, they also recruited the main characters from Mrazík, when she lent the voice of Nastěnka and Zíma again to Ivánek and also together they wrote a book about their life with a distinctive title Prince and Spinner.

Towards the end of her life, her husband and carers had to take intensive care of her because of her leg injury, which she suffered during a suicide attempt, reported. She suffered unbearable pain the whole time. A few days ago, exactly 10 years have passed since her death. She died in her sleep on June 18, 2012 at the age of 79 in Prague and was buried in the Vinohrady Cemetery.
