What causes beer in the stomach?
Calories of any kind – either from alcohol, sugary drinks or large portions of food – can increase the amount of fat on your stomach. However, it turns out that alcohol has a special relationship with fat in the middle. “In the medical literature, we find the fact that alcohol consumption is associated with a fatter waist, because, in simple words, the liver” burns “alcohol, not fat,” explains Anita Baumane.

Research shows that smokers can also deposit more fat in the abdominal area, ”explains pharmacist Ērika Pētersone.

What is the fault of beer belly?
It is not just a cosmetic problem, but is linked to a variety of health problems, from type 2 diabetes to high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. In addition, carrying extra pounds on the thighs or hips is less risky than carrying them in the abdomen.

“There is no magic way to fight belly fat, except for the proven method – to reduce calories and increase physical activity,” says Anita Baumane, who is also a fitness trainer.

Since there is a link between alcohol calories and belly fat, the best place to start is to reduce your alcohol consumption to one glass per day for women and two glasses for men. Sworn beer lovers should choose a light beer with 100 calories or less. Another option is to drink alcohol only on holidays and change to low-calorie non-alcoholic alcoholic beverages.

“And don’t forget to have a healthy meal before or with a drink to help resist the temptation to eat too many high-calorie foods,” says a nutritionist.
