W According to a British study, ien is again the most livable city in the world this year. In the annual published on Thursday Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) rankings As in 2018 and 2019, the Austrian capital ranks first.
The Danish capital Copenhagen and Zurich in Switzerland follow in second and third place. The most livable German city is Frankfurt am Main, which came in seventh.
Last year, Vienna was still in twelfth place because of the museums and restaurants closed in the wake of the corona pandemic. Now the city has reclaimed the top spot from New Zealand’s Auckland, which fell back to 34th place due to its ongoing corona restrictions.
EIU justified the good performance of the Austrian metropolis with the stability, the good infrastructure and health care as well as the “many cultural and entertainment possibilities”. Vienna thus achieved the maximum score of 100 points.
Three Canadian cities in the top ten
A total of six of the top ten cities in the ranking are in Europe. Three Canadian cities are also in the top ten: Calgary (3rd place), Vancouver (5th place) and Toronto (8th place).
The Ukrainian capital Kyiv was excluded from the ranking this year because of the Russian war of aggression. The Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg slipped significantly down the list due to “censorship” and the impact of Western sanctions against Russia . The war-torn Syrian capital Damascus once again came last.
