Uber Brings Back Ride Sharing This Summer After Pandemic Pause – NBC New York

The option to share an Uber will finally return to the ride-hailing app after being removed for years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

UberX Share, previously called Uber Pool, was removed as a precautionary measure in the early months of the pandemic, but was recently relaunched under the new name.

According to the company, the ride-sharing service is available in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Phoenix, San Diego, Portland, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, with more cities to be added later this summer.

Uber noted that the ride-sharing service is working to bring affordability to customers, “especially in the current economic climate,” making ride-sharing an important step in that direction.

Riders who share a ride will receive a discount of up to 20% of the total fare if they are matched with another passenger along the route, depending on the Uber website.

The company also guarantees that passengers will arrive no later than eight minutes later than they would in a private Uber. Uber has also restricted rides to a maximum of two passengers.

Masks will remain optional during rideshare, but Uber asks that passengers respect the preferences of others.
