How to format Xiaomi 12X

Formatting a cell phone is a process that can be very useful in many cases, and it is no different with the Xiaomi 12X. If your device is out of space, or has any other performance issues, resetting to factory defaults should significantly improve the experience.

In addition, the operation is also recommended when the smartphone is sold or given away to someone else, especially if it is a stranger. In this way, important and sensitive data will not be passed on to the new user of the device.

For the tutorial we used a Xiaomi 12X with MIUI 13.0.1 Global running on Android 12. The steps can be similar in other cell phones of the Xiaomi with the same version of the interface and operating system.

  1. Make sure the Xiaomi 12X is at least 50% charged or plugged in. Turning off the device in the middle of the procedure can make it unusable;
  2. Find and open the settings app;
  3. In the settings menu, scroll to the end of the list to find the option ”Additional settings”;
  4. The next screen will also need to be moved to the bottom, where there will be a tweak called “Reset Data”;
  5. Afterwards, the system will show you which data will be deleted (such as accounts, contacts, apps, etc). At the bottom, select “Erase all data”;
  6. MIUI will ask if the user wants to backup the data. In case all important information is already stored elsewhere, choose “Reset data”;
  7. The next screen is a warning as the device will warn that resetting the data will erase all personal data. Wait ten seconds and select “Next”;
  8. The last step before the start of the restore is also a warning: this time, the system reaffirms that a backup with all important data must be ready before the reset. If this has already been done or you don’t mind, wait another ten seconds and choose “OK”;
  9. The formatting operation will start and will not take more than a few minutes. When the device shows the initial settings screen, it means that the process has been completed — from this moment on it can be reconfigured as new or passed on.
