Real Madrid courted Kylian Mbappe long and hard. After the royals had to admit defeat in the previous summer despite a mega offer to Paris Saint-Germain, many around the Spanish record champions assumed that Mbappe would come on a free transfer at the end of June 2022 when his contract expired – puff cake. Supposedly surprisingly, the 23-year-old extended his contract at PSG by three years.
‘I knew Kylian wanted to stay at PSG’
Real Madrid were once again left behind, much to the delight of Nasser Al-Khelaifi. In an interview with the Brand The PSG boss said: “I turned down Real Madrid’s €180m last summer because I knew Kylian wanted to stay at PSG. I know him very well, I know what he and his family want and they are not driven by money.” Mbappe decided “here for his city, his club and his country as well as for the sports project,” said Al-Khelaifi, who should rub salt in the wound at Real Madrid with his latest statements.
