Jakarta –
The United States (US) economy is threatened by a recession with the growth criteria declining for two consecutive quarters. After the economy grew by 1.5% in the first quarter of 2022, in the second quarter of 2022 it is estimated that the US economy will only grow 0.9%.
Deputy Minister of Finance (Wamenkeu) Suahasil Nazara said that if there was a recession in the US, it would affect global economic conditions, including Indonesia.
“Of course we will continue to pay attention to world economic conditions. World economic conditions, the main countries are the US, China will directly affect the economy of the whole world,” said Suahasil when met at the Indonesian Parliament Building, Jakarta, Tuesday (21/6/2022).
In Indonesia, said Suahasil, the recession in the US will affect Indonesia’s economic growth, exports, and the condition of world financial markets. He admitted that he would continue to monitor and observe the state of the global economy.
“It will be directly affected. We will try to read it in detail,” he said.
Even so, Suahasil is optimistic that Indonesia’s economic growth next year will remain in line with the projection, which is in the range of 5%. “If I tell you what we read next year, Indonesia’s growth will probably be in the range of 5.3-5.9%,” he added.
“Our reading on inflation will also be influenced by world inflation, our reading on interest rates is what we read,” he added.
