Sina Mai Holthuijsen (LAV Uerdingen/Dormagen) from Erkelenz used her home field advantage at the NRW Championships in Krefeld and celebrated the title in the women’s hammer throw. With three invalid and three valid attempts, she threw the four-kilogram hammer 56.46 meters in the third round. She threw twelve meters further than her Anna Jantzen from LAZ Rhede (44.03) and Marie Schuler (Bayer Leverkusen) (42.15), who took second and third place.

“Overall, the competition went well for me. But I’m not satisfied with my width. I know that I can throw further,” says the 25-year-old, who works for the Heinsberg district health department. Sina Mai Holthuijsen, who is coached by Helmut Penert and her father Peter Holthuijsen, will not start at the German Championships in Berlin at the weekend – although she is currently eleventh in the German list of the best with 58.65 meters. “I’m at the Dutch championships on Friday and want to try to get on the podium there,” says the hammer thrower, who has this opportunity thanks to her double start right. Her father had once become Dutch decathlon champion ten times.

Holthuijsen was Dutch champion four years ago and represented the Netherlands at the U23 European Championships and two Universiades. Her best distance is over 62 meters.
