More attacks on municipal employees in Hamburg | NDR.de – News

The number of attacks on city employees in Hamburg has increased. The attacks are increasing, especially in the districts of Altona and Wandsbek.

During the pandemic, the number of attacks has increased. In 2021, the Human Resources Office registered more than 1,800 verbal abuse, threats and physical violence. In the previous year there were fewer cases – a total of around 1,700. In both years, the victims and perpetrators were mostly male. The attackers are said to have insulted the officials above all.

Wandsbek: Frequent insults from dog owners

According to the personnel office, the number of attacks in Wandsbek has also increased. There, the employees of the district forester keep hearing insults when they ask passers-by to put their dogs on a leash.

In Altona, numbers have been increasing since 2018

In the Altona district, the number of cases has increased continuously since 2018. After a severe attack by a mentally ill man on two officers, the responsible delivery service changed its reporting practice. He now reports low-threshold incidents more frequently.
