It is full of “emotions” and “excitement” that the newly elected deputies entered the courtyard of the Bourbon palace to take, for some, their very first steps in the National Assembly. “It is extremely empowering to arrive in this palace which is so legendary, that we see more on TV. Today, I am part of it so I will do it with great seriousness and commitment, ”says Violette Spillebout, elected MP for the first time, under the label LREM (Together!) in the 9th district of the North. In her hands, the elected of the presidential majority squeezes a small briefcase, entrusted to each deputy upon his arrival.
“It’s a bit like going back to second,” quips Karl Olive, also elected to the Assembly for the first time (Various Right, Together!). Inside, is the complete kit of the deputy: tricolor scarf, cockades, a pad soberly entitled “Regulations of the National Assembly”…
But behind the joy of being elected or re-elected, some deputies display a serious expression. With the surprise and unprecedented breakthrough of the National Rally and the presidential coalition which failed to secure an absolute majority, the second round of the legislative elections turned the composition of the National Assembly upside down. Reportage.
