The Indonesian National Team is Not an Onion in the 2023 Asian Cup

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Indonesian National team is the lowest ranked team in the finals Asian Cup 2023, but the Red-White Squad is not a team with minimal experience in the elite Asian tournament.

Throughout history, the appearance at the 2023 Asian Cup will be the Garuda Squad’s fifth appearance in the tournament. Previously, the Indonesian national team had competed in the Asian Cup four times in a row, starting from 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2007.

With this record, Indonesia is not the greenest team in the Asian Cup. Indonesia has an advantage in terms of performance experience compared to a number of countries, including countries with a superior pot above Indonesia.

Indonesia’s number of appearances is on par with Australia in pot 1. Indonesia is also on par with Oman and Vietnam who are in the second pot.

Indonesia is even ahead in the number of appearances when compared to Lebanon, Palestine, and Kyrgyzstan in the third pot. The same thing is also in the fourth pot, Indonesia is ahead of Malaysia and Hong Kong who will both make their fourth appearance.

Tajikistan will only make its debut in the upcoming 2023 Asian Cup.

The Indonesian national team has qualified for the 2023 Asian Cup after being one of the best runners-up. The Indonesian national team won over Kuwait with a score of 2-1, lost 0-1 to Jordan, and beat Nepal with a score of 7-0.

The last time the Indonesian national team appeared in the Asian Cup was in 2007. At that time, the Garuda squad was the host and failed to qualify from the group phase. Not only that, in the three previous participations, the Indonesian national team has always stopped in the group phase.

The host of the 2023 Asian Cup has not been determined after China decided to withdraw due to still focusing on handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
