Ukraine has banned the import of books from Russia and Belarus

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the draft law on the termination of the agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Russian Federation on scientific and technical cooperation presented by Prime Minister Denys Shmygal on May 11. In addition, the importation of books from Russia and Belarus was prohibited in Ukraine.

The deputy of the People’s Servant party, chairman of the Subcommittee on Regulation of the Verkhovna Rada, Pavlo Frolov, wrote about it via Telegram, reports Ukrinform.

“By Law No.0149 the agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Russia on scientific and technical cooperation is terminated,” he said.

According to Frolov, the parliament also supported the bill No.7459, which prohibits the importation and distribution in Ukraine of publishing products from Russia, Belarus, the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and publications in the language of the aggressor state imported from other countries, the import permit procedure was introduced and remained in force for publications imported from Russia.

At the same time, the parliament voted in favor of the draft law No.6287 on stimulating the development of the Ukrainian book market as an important factor in humanitarian development and national security. In particular, it is planned to provide from 2023 a state subsidy of up to 20% of income to reimburse the cost of renting real estate used by a publishing entity (which will sell books in Ukrainian, EU and indigenous languages ​​using the transaction recorder). “They also established in-kind assistance to citizens of Ukraine in the form of a certificate for the purchase of books for 0.3 of the subsistence level for people without disabilities (now it is 800 UAH),” the politician added.
