Asturias recovers optimal levels of blood reserves

Donating blood is still necessary. And to that end, the youngest must continue to be made aware. This is one of the objectives of the Donors Association of Gijón, which has held its general assembly today. There they have also claimed to extend the age so that healthy adults can donate up to 72 years.
Guarantee the generational change of donors and face the aging of the population. These are the main concerns expressed at this meeting of the Gijón association. The average age of the Asturian donor is 58 years. That is why they demand that the regulations extend the possibility of donating blood beyond 65.
Asturias has recovered optimal levels of blood reserves after the recent appeals that forced the increase in surgical activity. The community center is once again above 800 bags. To stay like this it requires 200 daily donations. And it is that a single organ transplant can need up to 60 bags.
On this 50th anniversary of the Gijón Blood Donor Association, it recognizes the altruism of large donors with more than 100 extractions.
With 80,000 active donors in Asturias, 40,000 donations were made last year. Of special relevance are those carried out during the Trade Fair. That is why they trust in recovering the 2,500 extractions prior to the pandemic. And it is that it is a strategic point that guarantees the provision of the summer.
