On Saturday, the heat reached record highs with values between 35 and 39°C over 2/3 of the country. Even higher values were observed, at more than 40°C from the southwest to the center of the country. On Sunday, temperatures began to drop from the west as they peaked in the east.
Saturday was exceptionally hot due to the influx of hot air from the Maghreb which passed through Spain before reaching France.
Many monthly heat records
The list of cities that have broken monthly heat records is long: Bordeaux, Rennes, Orléans, Niort, Tours, Blois, Évreux, Abbeville, Auxerre, Troyes, Chartres, Bergerac, Le Mans, Mont-de-Marsan cite just a few.
Absolute heat records in some cities
Even more exceptional, absolute heat records were recorded in Tarbes and especially Biarritz where the temperature reached 42.9°C! A situation that is all the more exceptional as it is not yet summer!
One of the hottest days in France
The thermal index rose to 27.4°C yesterday and we therefore did not break the record for the hottest day for a month of June which stood at 27.9°C at the end of June 2019.
#Heat wave : the day of June 18 is the 18th hottest day observed since 1947 in France. Nearly 200 stations beat their #record monthly or absolute heat, i.e. nearly a third of the stations in the French weather network. pic.twitter.com/sdvIlyABDL

Warmth worthy of tropical countries
The temperatures we experienced in France yesterday were at the level of values usually recorded in tropical countries.
An exceptionally sweet last night
After yesterday’s scorching day, the temperature struggled to drop. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, temperatures did not drop below 20°C in many cities. High minimum temperature records have been recorded
🌡️ Many nocturnal sweetness records were broken last night, between eastern and central France, with minimums between 22 and 25°C. And this afternoon, we expect more than 35°C in these cities where the #heat wave continues. pic.twitter.com/VyBkZXnFYC

This Sunday, the heat wave reached the center and the east of the country. If no monthly heat record was broken, temperatures sometimes approached 36 to 38 ° C, especially between Strasbourg and Grenoble as well as between the departments of Cher and Allier.
Monday and Tuesday, even if the temperature will slowly start to drop, this heat wave will continue in these eastern and central regions with values between 30 and 35°C in the afternoons.
