Mbappé fires back towards football top

The president of the French Football Association, Noel Le Graet, makes the claim in an interview with the newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche on Sunday.

Mbappé went goalless in all four matches when France was surprisingly knocked out of the European Championship play-offs in the quarter-finals. Switzerland was too good.

The 23-year-old PSG star missed out on the decisive penalty kick in the penalty shootout against the Swiss.

It was 3-3 in the match after extra innings. Afterwards, Mbappé was subjected to a lot of criticism.

– I met him after the European Championships. He felt that the association had not defended him after the penalty kick and the criticism he faced, says football president Le Graet to Le Journal du Dimanche.

– We met for five minutes in my office. He was angry, he did not want to play for the French team anymore – something he obviously did not mean, the 80-year-old continues.

On Twitter Mbappé comes up with another version of the case.

– I explained to him that it was primarily related to racism and not the penalty kick. But he thought there had been no racism …, the 23-year-old writes.

Mbappé has played nine international matches for his home country since last year’s disappointing European Championship exit and has helped France qualify for this year’s World Cup finals in Qatar.

The PSG striker stands with 27 goals in 57 senior internationals. That places him in eleventh place on the top scorer list of all time. It is topped by Thierry Henry with 51 hits.
