Los ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach decided to delay their container demurrage fee again for another week. The measure was postponed until June 24.

Since the program was announced on October 25, the two ports have seen a combined 38% decrease in cargo aging at docks.

The CEOs of both ports will reassess tariff implementation after monitoring the data over the next week.

The implementation of tariffs has been postponed by both ports since the beginning of the program.

The Long Beach and Los Angeles boards of port commissioners have extended the fee schedule through July 28.

Under the temporary policy, ocean carriers may be charged for each import container that remains at the terminal for nine days or more. Currently, no date has been set to start the count regarding the time spent by the container.

The ports plan to charge ocean carriers $100 per container, increasing in increments of $100 per container per day until the container leaves the terminal.

Any fees collected from residential charging will be reinvested in programs designed to improve efficiency, speed up charging and address the impacts of congestion.
