Not Far from the Solar System, NASA Finds 2 Earth-like Exoplanets

NEW YORK – National Aeronautics and Space Administration ( NASA ) recently discovered two exoplanets similar to Earth. It is said that its location is not far from the solar system.

As reported by UPI, Sunday (19/6/2022), the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) team from NASA said the two exoplanets were 33 light years apart. Closest ever found.

“Both are in the top 10 candidates for atmospheric characterization among all terrestrial exoplanets so far discovered,” said Pat Brennan, head of the TESS team.

Rennan further called the two exoplanets considered “super earth”, with the code HD 260655 b measuring 1.2 times the size of the Earth and HD 260655 c measuring 1.5 times the size of the Earth.

Both orbit a red dwarf star that has HD 260655. But unfortunately the temperature of both is believed to be too hot to support life as in Earth so there is definitely no life there.

Brennan said that his team is still continuing to explore the two exoplanets found. Monitoring was carried out using the James Webb Space Telescope.

“The James Webb telescope, which will soon be sending out its first science images, can examine a planet’s atmosphere for water, carbon molecules and other components,” Brennan said.

“Learning more about the rocky planet’s atmosphere will help scientists understand the formation and development of worlds like ours,” he added.
