They don’t have the prestige of the World Championships or even the European Championships, but they are an important step for athletes who are progressing or wanting to make a name for themselves on the international stage. The 19th Mediterranean Games, which will bring together nearly 3,400 athletes from June 25 to July 6 in Oran (Algeria), will be one of the highlights of the weeks to come. A large French delegation, 309 members strong is expected in Algeria.

There will be around ten athletes from Lorraine, a good majority of them from Moselle. Made up of experienced athletes (Augustin Bey, Benjamin Choquert, Magda Wiet-Hénin or Akhmed Aibuev) or in the making (karateka Tiphaine Bonnarde), the Lorraine delegation has the means to shine in Algeria and bring back one or more medals.
