Of all the components of your desktop setup, the monitor is perhaps the most important. Video cards and processors may be a little more popular, but the end result of all that math is a picture that appears on the only computer component you look at day in, day out. Monitors are generally made to last for years. Choosing a new monitor is therefore quite a task, also because there is a lot to choose from.
In the Pricewatch there are currently more than 2800 displays, with manufacturers seeming to make every effort to make product names as difficult as possible. There are also many different specifications to consider, from resolution and panel type to brightness and contrast, color rendering, viewing angles and response times. Depending on the purpose for which you want to use the screen, certain properties may be more or less important. Just to get rid of an absolute clincher: there is no such thing as the perfect monitor that can do everything.
