Jakarta –
chirp Roy Suryo from Twitter who posted the Borobudur stupa edited to resemble President Joko Widodo’s face (Jokowi) long tail. Even though he has deleted and apologized, Roy Suryo has hurt Buddhists.
The incident began when the former Minister of Youth and Sports protested against the increase in the price of entry fees to Indonesia Borobudur temple.
“During the weekend, the tweets were light. In line with the protest against the planned increase in ticket prices to Borobudur Temple (from 50 thousand) to 750 thousand which was (properly) DELAYED, a lot of netizens’ creativity changed one of the iconic open stupas in Borobudur, FUNNY, he-3x AMBYAR,” Roy Suryo tweeted.
There’s nothing wrong with tweeting Roy Suryo. It’s just that in the photo included in this post that has invited a lot of criticism, the Borobudur stupa is edited with a face like Jokowi.
Knowing his tweet became controversial, Roy Suryo then deleted his post as a form of accountability. He also apologized for the post, but the wound had already been sliced.
It was Dharmapala Nusantara who was going to report to the police. However, the Dharmapala Nusantara report was rejected, on the grounds that someone had already reported Roy Suryo to the same case.
“That the report was not accepted, because it turned out that on June 16 yesterday someone had reported the same case, against the same person, we reported the same article, so it cannot be processed,” said Kevin Wu’s attorney, Antoni, to reporters at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Friday (17/6).
Netizens also reacted to Roy Suryo’s action, according to which he also spread the Borobudur stupa meme to a wider audience.
“The law can’t be indiscriminate!!
“Roy Suryo must be prosecuted. Remember the Ahok case, even though he apologized, the legal process is still ongoing and he was sentenced to 2 years in prison,” said @jayabay194***.
“Maybe Roy Suryo thought that he just reposted the meme, and there is no criminal article. He doesn’t know that what he posted is a belief of a certain group ,” said @teristie ***.
“You don’t realize it and you don’t feel guilty. If you didn’t use it to tweet Roy Suryo, maybe many people don’t know, then the sentence that was uttered was also from a photo editor? ***.
