The origins of the Corona virus are still a mystery. Experts, including from the World Health Organization (WHO), are still not sure how the COVID-19 pandemic started.
Renowned United States (US) health expert and director of the National Institute of Allergy, Dr Anthony Fauci, revealed the possible origin of the virus.
Dr Fauci said researchers had concluded that the coronavirus was very likely due to a ‘natural occurrence’ or originating in an animal species. The virus almost certainly spread to humans in the Wuhan area, China.
“There’s been a number of papers coming out of very qualified viral virologists and virus phylogeneticians showing that it’s very, very likely the species passed from an animal host, perhaps via an intermediate host, to a human species which then spread around the world. The human population would have been, almost certainly. came from China in Wuhan,” explained Dr Fauci, quoted from the page Fox NewsFriday (17/6/2022).
In his explanation, Dr. Fauci also still acknowledged the theory that the possibility of the Corona virus arose as a result of a laboratory leak in the laboratory of the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
“We are still open and always open-minded about whether this (Coronavirus) has anything to do with viruses isolated in the environment and entering the laboratory, or often referred to as the laboratory leak theory,” he said.
However, Dr Fauci argues that most of the available evidence supports that the Corona virus is a natural occurrence. He hopes that in the future the Chinese and US governments can collaborate to find the origin of this virus.
“I certainly hope so, because we are not going to get an answer that is a definite answer,” said Dr Fauci.
“But I certainly think that if we want to continue monitoring populations of bats and wild animals that may serve as intermediate hosts or prove theories from the laboratory, we (the US) need to collaborate with China,” he concluded.
