Among the many health benefits they have, probiotics help improve the absorption of vitamins and minerals into the bloodstream, including vitamin D3. Prolonged vitamin D3 deficiency increases the risk of brittle bones and teeth, frequent fractures, respiratory infections, seasonal depression and muscle weakness.
A meta-analysis published in 2011 revealed that the use of probiotic strains in combination with vitamin D3 has a positive influence on immunity. Together they act synergistically, having an effect on colonizing the gut with sanogenic flora and improving the immune response in childhood, improving digestion and food tolerance, reducing the risk of developing obesity or allergies (such as atopic dermatitis), reducing chronic inflammation and improving the immune response.
The meta-analysis took into account 8 studies, with a total population of almost 1,400 children.
Probiotic strains supplemented with vitamin D3 contribute to the proper functioning of the immune system in children, being recommended for the normal growth and development of bones.
