A video confession of a group of women about the experience of undergoing ‘Friends with Benefit’ (FWB) has gone viral on social media. The video invited many comments from netizens, most of whom criticized the FWB concept which was considered incompatible with Indonesian culture.
Sex expert Dr Boyke Dian Nugraha, SpOG stated that the FWB concept was not suitable to be applied in Indonesia. Commitment as in the husband-wife relationship according to him is very important in having sex.
“If abroad maybe yes, if not in Indonesia, yes, it is not our culture. Relationship in sex is really needed like in a husband-wife relationship, and must be committed,” he said when met by detik.com, Thursday (16/6/2022).
According to Dr. Boyke, in FWB relationships the most disadvantaged are women. There are many risks of sexually transmitted diseases and disorders that can attack the psyche in undergoing FWB relationships.
“In a relationship like that, women are the most harmed, many cases I have had consensual sex but there was no commitment going forward, so it’s difficult. Loss can have a lot of risk of disease, many regret it in the end,” he continued.
Dr. Boyke also reminded that sex is an expression of love. According to him, a relationship like FWB which has no future commitment and could fail at any time, only brings a lot of losses.
“Remember that sex is the highest expression of love, sex is a relationship, the second is the highest expression of love, and the third is just recreation for fun and the purpose of making children. If in FWB there is no relation for future commitments, what’s the point in just adding to the sexual experience just,” he concluded.
