The Russian car manufacturer AvtoVAZ had to stop car production after sanctions against the country came into force due to the invasion of Ukraine.
The manufacturer – which is better known as the Lada here at home – was partly owned by Renault until April this year, but is now back in state hands.

“Sanction-free”
This week it became known that the factory has resumed production of the model Lada Granta,
“We must continue to produce the most popular and affordable cars on the Russian market, which are not dependent on the lack of imported components,” said AutoVAZ CEO Maksim Sokolov, when the news became known, according to Sky News.
However, this does not happen without up to several lines in the bill.
Several media, including NBCwrites that the model now being produced lacks airbags, ABS brakes, stability control and emergency stop mechanisms on the seat belts.
It must also not be able to meet modern exhaust gas requirements.
“This is a huge step backwards,” said Dawid Ward, president of the Global New Car Assessment Program, which works to develop car safety worldwide, according to NBC.

Bullying
The Russian new launch has not gone unnoticed by the internet people, and it does not spare the humor.
– Where’s the cassette player? asks, among other things, a twitter user during a post posted by BBC journalist Francis Scarr.
Scarr’s post shows a TV feature from the state-owned TV channel Rossija 1, where the news of the new car is mentioned.
However, there is little to say about the price tag. The car costs 675,900 rubles, which is equivalent to almost 120,000 Norwegian kroner at the time of writing.
Norgesbil
Those who have lived for a while probably remember Lada well. The cars were a well-known sight in this country in the 70s and 80s.
According to Broomthe last Lada cars in Norway were sold in 1999 and the Norwegian importer resigned the following year.
