– Tesla is cheaper in Norway today if you compare with the prices in the US. Tesla Model Y actually costs NOK 100,000 more in the USA than in Norway, says investment director Robert Næss to Nettavisen.
Næss highlights two reasons in particular that lead to a lower price level in Norway.
– One reason is that the krone is weak, so that when Tesla sells cars in Norway, they get paid less. The other reason is that Tesla raised its prices last night in the US, says Næss.
– It’s just a hurry
– In the short term, there will be different prices in Norway and the USA, but they tend to adjust prices quite quickly.
The low price in Norway is unlikely to persist, the investment director believes.
– And it is likely that they will raise prices.
Here, Næss points out that a price increase can already take place today, but can also take a few weeks.
– What is the advice to Norwegians who want Tesla?
– It’s just a hurry. They have an agreement where you pay 2500 kroner and if you change your mind you can withdraw.
Næss believes that an investment today can provide a good future return.
– It is a small amount, but you can actually save 30-50,000 kroner.
The Tesla model today is 574,000 kroner.
– If you are going to buy a used Tesla on finn.no, the cheapest is 590,000, but then you get the car right away.
The delivery time for the cars is now between October and December. Næss also suspects that there may be delays and that Tesla will not be able to deliver before November to January.
– Even if you order now, you are not guaranteed to get the car before January. Then you can risk VAT, says Næss and aims the introduction of VAT on electric cars that cost more than NOK 500,000 in the new year.
– Can get a nice win
Næss thinks Tesla’s offer to pay only NOK 2,500 today is a good scheme that allows consumers to assess the situation over a longer period.
– It’s good that they have that scheme. If the world goes bad and there is VAT and the demand for electric cars falls, then you have only lost 2,500 kroner. You can cancel until the car is registered.
Næss has ordered a Tesla himself these days, and has plans to resell it when it is delivered.
– I have done it a couple of times before, and given that tip to a number of others today.
The investment manager believes Tesla will raise prices shortly.
– I think they will increase the price by 30-50,000 kroner. Then you can get a nice profit if you buy for today’s price.
How much he resells the car for will depend on how much Tesla sets the price.
– It’s vvery easy to place an ad on finn.no. I do this as a hobby, and I am a co-owner of a car dealership. I have previously bought several Tesla as well as Porsche Taycan, Ford Mustang and Jaguar I-Pace in this way and drove them for a few months and liekvel could sell them at a profit.
What is the risk?
– Tesla will not be able to deliver before the turn of the year. You potentially have 20,000 kroner in VAT. The market may turn around and that would have affected the investment.
