JAKARTA Israel is a country in the Middle East region located near the eastern coastline of the Mediterranean Sea. This country has been involved in a prolonged conflict with Palestine.

Since the 1967 war, Israel has occupied much of the Palestinian territories. Until now, the Palestinians only had control of smaller territories in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Launching from worldpopulationreview.com, although Israel is a member of the United Nations, Israel—as of December 2020—is only recognized by 165 of the 193 UN member states. Some of the UN members who refuse are Muslim-majority countries.

The rejection of this recognition is an act of political solidarity with Palestine, whose sovereignty is recognized by around 139 UN members, including Indonesia.

Here are 9 countries that recognize Israel as a state:

1. United States of America

The United States became the first country to recognize the state of Israel. President Harry Truman recognized it as the de facto authority of the new Jewish state on May 15, 1948.

Until now, the United States has been Israel’s main ally. Washington was the one who contributed massive funds to Tel Aviv to become the strongest country in the Middle East.
