The ninth edition of the New York Americas Film Festival (TAFFNY) returns with feature films and documentaries, as well as short films and animations, that represent the rich diversity of histories, languages ​​and cultures of the Americas. The Festival begins on Friday, June 17 at 6:30 pm at the Cervantes Institute with the New York premiere of the film The King of All the World by legendary Spanish director Carlos Saura and starring Mexican actors Ana de la Reguera and Manuel García-Rulfo. Producer Alexandra Fierro will be present for a dialogue with the audience.

People will watch movies from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, Peru, Spain, and the United States. TAFFNY closes on Friday, June 24 at 6:00 pm with the awards ceremony for short films competing for The Americas Award at the National Museum of the American Indian (1 Bowling Green, NYC), followed by a special presentation by Bootlegger by French Anishinaabe filmmaker Caroline Monnet.

Throughout 8 days, 17 countries will show part of their identity, culture and diversity through the seventh art. Panorama of the Americas is a dynamic program that presents the rich cultures of the Americas through seven award-winning feature films and documentaries.

“The films, mostly directed by female directors, explore the complexities of their societies, review their past and question social and personal positions on pressing issues such as reproductive rights, sustainability, motherhood and the legacy of ancestral laws,” he said.
