Lukas Weißhaidinger finished fourth at the Continental Tour meeting of the discus throwers in Turku on Tuesday. The 30-year-old from Upper Austria, who jumped 67.16 meters, was second until the last round, but then slipped off the podium. The winner was Swedish Olympic champion and world number one Daniel Stahl (70.62) ahead of Lithuanian Andrius Gudzius (68.09) and Slovenian three-time Diamond League winner Kristjan Ceh (67.76).
“I can live with that. To be honest, I wouldn’t have expected such a strong width. As long as I don’t finish fourth at the World Championships or the European Championships, everything is fine,” said Weißhaidinger. From now on regeneration is announced. “Now I have to lick my wounds anyway. My back hurts from flying so much, I’m pretty tired,” said Austria’s figurehead. No wonder after five competitions within twelve days.
Before the World Cup in the USA (mid-July) there are still two tasks to be completed: the State Championships in St. Pölten (June 26) and the Diamond League Meeting in Stockholm (June 30).
