3:7 after 20 minutes, 11:5 after 40 minutes. For once, the Red Devils’ mortgage was too great to turn the game around again in the final section. Although the Ausserschwyzers dominated the game in the last third, they failed again and again due to the strong play of the Yetis goalkeeper or their own inability.
Even the many minutes of play without a goalkeeper, but with an additional field player, did not bring the desired turnaround. Although the Teufel were able to shorten the lead to 12:10 thanks to two quickly played goals, they soon conceded the Empty-Netter to make it 13:10 in the end.
The fact that it got that far was due to the nonchalant appearance in the first third. The Devils stood too far apart while the hosts hammered the balls with long shots around their ears and through the holey defense. A handful of these degrees fidgeted with millimeter precision in the crossbar.
Not in top form
The Lucerne team, who were defeated 13:9 a year ago in the same place, showed themselves to be wildly determined, eager to run and uncompromising. This may have been due to the average age being around ten years lower, but also to the fact that the favored guests waited too long and in vain for signs of fatigue at the opposing second division team. But the “it’ll be fine” attitude didn’t bear fruit.
Although the middle section was more balanced with the Devils playing more, the Yetis, who had been promoted to the second division in the spring, repeatedly countered quickly and successfully.
On the other hand, the Red Devils lacked intensity and the pull on the opposing goal. In combination with the non-existent top form of the established leading players, they simply could not ignite the offensive fireworks they were familiar with from earlier years.
Failed earlier than ever
So even the second third clearly went to the hosts (6:2) despite more possession of the ball, which put them clearly and deservedly in the lead at 11:5 after 40 minutes. After all, the Red Devils woke up in the final section, took over the game more or less completely and started the long-awaited race to catch up. But the opponent played too disciplined and consistent for this game to be very exciting again.
The Red Devils March-Höfe Altendorf are already in the second cup round or in their first cup appearance in the 1/64 final and thus failed earlier than ever.
