‘I tested positive for Covid while on vacation in America, but nobody cared’

A traveler from New Zealand recounts his holiday experience to United States of America. There he tested positive for COVID-19, but no one cared.

Ashlyn Oswalt hasn’t traveled to in 3 years United States of America visit his family. Once the border gate was opened, this girl who lives in New Zealand did not waste the opportunity to vacation in Uncle Sam’s country.

Unfortunately, just a week of vacation to the US, Ashlyn and her partner felt a sore throat. The first to feel is the lover. However, after undergoing the Antigen test, they both tested negative.

They think maybe with a night’s rest, the next day their body condition will improve. However, the next morning, the symptoms they felt were even worse.

After undergoing tests, it was found that both of them were positive for COVID-19. Ashlyn also contacted the Department of Health and the CDC. They also ordered Ashlyn and her partner to self-isolate for 5 days.

But apparently that’s all that the CDC and the US Department of Health have said. Nothing else was conveyed by the relevant authorities. Ashlyn began to worry about how they would get back to New Zealand.

“There is no official data on how many positive cases are in the US like in New Zealand. We don’t even have a record of when we first tested positive. If we are still positive before flying, how do we prove our cases have been around for a long time?” Ashlyn complained, as quoted from Stuff NZ, Tuesday (14/6/2022).

Ashlyn judged that they had not been noticed at all. No one told them when to see a doctor. No one could give them a satisfactory answer.

In the end, Ashlyn contacted the New Zealand Covid-19 Center. He entered the data of his positive test results and instead got help from there.

Fortunately, Ashlyn and her partner’s COVID-19 symptoms are also starting to improve. They were finally able to return home to New Zealand.

“We finally tested negative. Our worries subsided. But we don’t know when we will be able to come here again. The sacrifices to come here are very difficult,” concluded Ashlyn.
