By launching a full-scale military invasion of independent Ukraine, Russia violated the Budapest Memorandum. This was stated on the air of “Espresso” by the Polish MEP Radoslaw Sikorski.
According to the MP, the West has the right to donate nuclear warheads to Ukraine to protect its independence, UNIAN reports.
After Ukraine renounced its nuclear potential in 1994, according to the Budapest Memorandum, and became an independent state within the borders established by the Soviet era, the Russian Federation violated this memorandum and therefore the West can give Ukraine the opportunity to defend its independence. “Said the MEP.
The Budapest Memorandum was signed in 1994 by Ukraine, Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom. There, security guarantees were imposed on Ukraine following the renunciation of nuclear weapons.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will not dare to attack NATO with nuclear weapons. This was also stated by the Polish MEP Radoslaw Sikorski.
“I do not think Putin will dare to attack NATO territory with nuclear weapons. Apart from rhetoric at the moment, I see no preparation. Russia has several thousand tactical warheads stored in specially prepared trains and this situation has been monitored by us. and from the Union 24 hours a day, “Sikorski said.
He also stressed that if there is a transfer of nuclear warheads to some units, it would mean that Russia is preparing for something similar.
“Nothing like this is happening,” he said.
The politician also reminded that there is a big difference between tactical and strategic weapons.
“The use of tactical weapons is through a different decision-making channel. Strategic intercontinental weapons actually come with a very short chain of decisions from the president’s order to the officers firing the missiles, after the decision must be very fast and the reaction within minutes, for example on the first strike of the enemy, tactical weapons are used in combat field and are available to leaders of a much lower level, of course, on the orders of the Kremlin, “said Sikorski.
Politically, such an order would be a serious danger to Putin himself.
“If Putin gives such an order, then this moment would be the greatest danger for him personally. Because Russian generals must decide either to take responsibility for the genocide with all its consequences, or to get rid of Putin,” the politician said.
