At 53, Manon Zahnd only aspires to one thing: to live a normal life, in the discretion that seems to characterize her. She is now a happy and fulfilled author. Until December 2020, she was still a man. Her book recounts this journey, why and how she decided to change gender. Because, as she writes so well, “on many occasions, life had made me realize that a girl existed in the depths of my being”.

“We can escape social marginalization”

A woman like the others is resolutely positive. Manon’s intention is to explain that “gender change can no longer be an obstacle course, that one can escape social marginalization, the loss of family ties and social exclusion”. She is the best example of this: her family, her friends, her professional circle have welcomed this new situation. The bonds never loosened. « You just have to agree to give time to time. Above all, we must not put people in front of a fait accompli”, respect the right measure to discuss, exchange. “Because there are people for whom it takes longer. »

For Manon Zahnd, everything happened very quickly, but quite late. Fifteen years ago, she tried to give herself up to a specialist, « but it didn’t.”. It was ultimately the first confinement that was the trigger, « it started the process in my head”. Manon then presses the accelerator. “I immediately made my first appointments, always with very good encounters”in particular during an expertise with a psychiatrist specializing in transidentity, or with endocrinologists, even if «Le treatment is heavy and impactful, it requires convalescence”. This is why she has not yet returned to work. Today, the first name Manon is clearly mentioned on her identity card, « but I am waiting for the mention “woman” to be written there”, which should be soon. She also just had a breast augmentation. Then there will be the next, very important step: surgery. It will be in several months.
