Occupiers paint Mariupol entrance sign in Russian national colors
The occupiers have repainted the entrance sign of the occupied Ukrainian city of Mariupol in the Russian national colors. A prominent square in the city was also renamed.

Mariupol.In the largely destroyed Ukrainian port city of Mariupol, the occupiers have repainted the letters of a huge entrance sign in the Russian national colors of white, blue and red, the state-controlled news site Gazeta.ru reported on Saturday.

The occupiers also replaced the Ukrainian “i” with the Russian “и” – in a video circulated on Twitter on Friday, a Russian soldier can be seen with a flex, at the time the letters were still blue and yellow.

The news site “Nexta” also reported on Saturday that the occupiers had renamed “Liberty Square” in Mariupol to “Lenin Square” and hoisted a Russian flag there – this can also be seen in a photo published on Twitter.

According to Ukrainian estimates, at least 21,000 civilians were killed and hundreds of buildings destroyed during the week-long siege of Mariupol by Russia. There are reports of mass graves containing thousands of bodies. Russia had taken complete control of the city in May.
