Community leaders raise the Puerto Rican flag in NYC

The heritage and culture of Puerto Rico shone from this Friday full of pride and excitement with a view to this weekend.

Leaders of the Puerto Rican community of our city, and municipal officials, including Mayor Adams, carried out the traditional flag raising in Bowling Green Park in Lower Manhattan.

This, in anticipation of the National Puerto Rican Parade in Manhattan that takes place this Sunday.

The 65th celebration of the also affectionately called parade will go down Fifth Avenue as is tradition. It will start at 11 in the morning and will travel from 43rd Street to 79th Street.

This year’s grand marshal will be US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. It will also feature singer Nicky Jam, who will be honored as the King of 2022, as well as Grammy-nominated artist Fat Joe.

This year the parade is dedicated to the municipality of Cidra, known as the town of Eternal Spring.
