Slovak hockey striker Juraj Slafkovský took 2nd place in the poll for the best young European in winter sports in 2022. In the vote at the 51st General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in Skopje, he was overtaken by Slovenian ski jumper Nika Prevcová, who won the Piotr Nurowski Prize. German snowboarder Leon Ulbricht finished in 3rd place in the poll. Other finalists in the Piotr Nurowski Prize were the Austrian skier Victoria Olivier and the Italian speed skater Lorenzo Previtali. Prevcová received a scholarship of 15,000 euros for the championship, Slafkovský will receive 8,000, Ulbricht 5,000 and the remaining two finalists will receive 3,000 euros.
During the first day of the 51st EOV General Assembly, delegates covered a wide range of topics, including the future direction of the organization in the post-pandemic period. “The past year has been full of activities. We have had a difficult time, but we have also had many reasons to celebrate and be proud. I firmly believe that we are on the right track to achieve the goals we have set. We continue to pray for peace and hope that all athletes will return to the courts – where the message of peace and unity is strongest, “ EOV President Spyros Capralos said in his opening speech.
