Who decides when polling stations close? And besides, what time do they close for this first round of legislative elections. This is our not-so-dumb question of the day. (©JB/76actu/Archives)
For both the first and the second round of the presidential election, the polling stations in Rouen as at Havre closed at 7 p.m. And for the legislative elections, is it the same thing? And who decides when the offices close? This is the not so stupid question that we asked the prefecture of the Seine-Maritime.
Everyone closes shop in Seine-Maritime at 6 p.m.
The opening time of the polling station is 8 am. But depending on the election, the closing time may vary. Indeed, during the presidential election, voters in Rouen and Le Havre had until 7 p.m. to go to the polls.
But for this first as for the second round of the legislative elections, this Sunday 12 and Sunday 19 June therefore, it will be necessary to go and vote before 6 p.m. and this quite simply because the prefect has not received any request for an exemption from a town in the department.
The normal closing time for a polling station is 6 p.m. A derogation can be granted by the prefect to close the offices at 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. but no municipality has requested a derogation,
The prefect therefore issued an order along the lines of Article 4 of Decree No. 2022-648 of April 25, 2022 summoning voters for the election of deputies to the National Assembly: “The ballot will be open at 8 hours and closed at 6 p.m. (local legal time), subject to the possible application of the last two paragraphs of article R. 41, article R. 176-1-2, article R. 208 , article R. 305, article R. 320 and article R. 335 of the electoral code. »
It should be noted that this decree also stipulates that “the poll cannot be closed after 8 p.m. Which explains why no results can be communicated before this time.
