In fashion often styles and accessories already seen are back in vogue on runways occasionally in the past. The creative can be inspired by observing nature and architecture but also artistic expressions dating back thousands of years. This is what often happens and it happened in particular at the beginning of the twentieth century Mariano Fortuny and Mandrazo who conceived the Delphos pleated dresses inspired by Greek statues and the ancient Egyptians.
Pleated dresses and skirts are therefore nothing new in the history of fashion. The merit of Fortuny and Madame Grès and others was to re-evaluate the soft lines and free women from corsets and dresses that are too rigid and structured.
A creation admired all over the world was also the Palladio Dress by Gianfranco Ferrè for Dior’s spring-summer 1992 collection. Here the great stylist resumed the lines of an Ionic column.
The pleated model
The pleated skirt or pleated skirt is back in fashion for summer 2022. The fabrics can be of various types as well as the lengths. It glides on the hips with countless folds and can also end at the bottom in various ways. There are the mini with ruffles or the long ones with frayed edge. The waist can be elasticized or more rigid. Many trendy pastel colors. We have baby pink or baby blue but also brick or denim blue.
The pleated skirt is versatile. With a simple white shirt and décolleté it is very elegant. With a top, a jacket and sneakers she is saucy. If we wear a blue or bottle green one combined with a blazer it becomes a suitable garment also for going to work.
This much-loved skirt is back in fashion for summer 2022, but in some cases it is to be avoided so as not to appear clumsy
Wearing skirts and light dresses in the summer makes us cooler. The pleated skirt back in fashion, however, adapts to particular bodies and not to everyone. We are free to wear what we like, but if we want to enhance ourselves sometimes we may have difficulty with certain garments.
This type of skirt, in fact, works best on bodies where the shoulders are slightly wider than the hips. At the limit, on rectangular builds.
If we have wide hips and narrow shoulders or an important b-side and arched back, the folds of the skirt in these cases would increase the volume of this part of the body. It would therefore be preferable to wear a pencil skirt. Another solution would be a pleated dress with a high waist.
