Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga wants to get to a world championship fight with a clear victory over Alexis Angulo
“The Chosen One” is back home. NABO Super Middleweight Champion Edgar Berlanga takes center stage in Saturday night’s 10-round Main Event at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden against two-time title challenger Alexis Angulo.
Edgar Berlanga, born in Brooklyn, New York, USA, whose family is of Puerto Rican origin, takes first place on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York. Berlanga (19-0-0, 16 KOs), a fearsome knockout who has won all of his first 16 wins by knockout in the first round, is hoping a win over powerful Colombian Alexis Angulo will put him closer to a world title.
The winner of this fight will be the first recipient of Madison Square Garden’s ‘Miguel Cotto Trophy’. Puerto Rican icon Cotto, who will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame this weekend, officiated five MSG fight nights on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day Parade. Miguel Cotto from Caguas, who held the world titles in four different weight classes, will be at ringside on Saturday night and will personally present the trophy that bears his name to the winner.
In the eight-round co-feature of this all-Puerto Rican card, Henry Lebron (15-0-0, 10 KO’s) and Luis Lebron (18-3-1, 11 KO’s) battle for the vacant WBO Latino- Junior lightweight belt. This fight was made a co-feature after junior middleweight sensation Xander Zayas was forced to withdraw from his fight due to a viral infection.
