“He has been with us for six years and knows what he has at the club. Here he has developed into a seasoned professional who has everything as a central defender and has proven over several years that he can play in the Bundesliga,” said Werder’s head of scouting and professional football, Clemens Fritz, on the extension with the top performer. “Milos was a constant in our promotion team,” said coach Werner. “He is tactically very variable, brings experience and takes responsibility on and off the pitch.”

After the contract extension with Veljkovic, Bremen’s central defense is complete for the new Bundesliga season. Amos Pieper (Arminia Bielefeld) and Niklas Stark (Hertha BSC) have been newly signed for this area, captain Ömer Toprak has left the club. “After promotion to the Bundesliga, it was clear to me that Bremen would be my first point of contact,” said Veljkovic, who joined Werder in February 2016 from Tottenham Hotspur.
