Distancing, confinements and health risks can change habits somewhat.
Snapchat shows how COVID-19 changes friendships
New Snapchat friendship report aims to photograph how COVID-19 has affected friendships during these months. The study collected the opinions of 30,000 people to better photograph the situation. In Italy, 56% of people confirm that they use online channels to communicate more than before COVID-19.
Moreover, according to 77%, they believe that digital communication is essential for maintaining relationships with their friends, regardless of their age. It should also be noted that 28% of Italians questioned say they have felt lonely since the start of the pandemic. This figure is 8 percentage points higher than what was recorded before the pandemic.
The negative effects of the pandemic and loneliness
Elisabetta Ruspiniassociate professor of Sociology at the University of Milano-Bicocca and an expert involved with Snapchat in the research, analyzes one of the negative effects of the pandemic: “The coronavirus epidemic has had a negative impact on our lives, increasing isolation and loneliness and generating fears and worries generalized”.
According to Professor Ruspini, the pandemic has had a noticeable effect on social relations: “some interactions have emerged strengthened, while others have been damaged or interrupted. Technology can offer support in times of crisis, but everyone should be able to access it and also know how to use it”
