That is why the German Red Cross in Reilingen once again called for blood donations. According to Michael Gelb, head of the Hockenheim district of the DRK district association in Mannheim, more than 100 people had the much-needed “lifeblood” tapped in the Fritz-Mannherz-Hallen and thus put themselves in the service of the general public.
Entry control is important
Before the actual donation could start, a few preparatory check-ups were carried out on those willing to donate. First of all, the iron value of the newcomers was checked. Then fever and blood pressure were measured. If all values were correct, the actual blood donation could proceed.

Two months of regeneration
With this so-called whole blood donation, half a liter of blood is taken via the arm vein into a bag system and divided into the various components during the subsequent processing of the canned blood.
The whole blood donation itself takes about five to ten minutes. Including the examination, a rest period and a snack, the donors will be released after one hour at the latest.
So that the body has enough time to compensate for the blood loss, the interval between two blood donations must not be less than 56 days. Women can donate blood four times a year and men six times a year.
