5 Planets ‘hanging out’ together at dawn until June 30, RI can enjoy it

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Indonesia is said to be able to see the five phenomena parallel planets alias conjunction until June 30, 2022. The condition is, a qualified telescope, fine weatherand monitored the morning before dawn.

Researcher from the Space Research Center of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Andi Pangerang said the phenomenon called multiplanet conjunction is divided into two parts, namely those with the moon and those without the moon.

“This phenomenon lasts until June 30. Those on June 19-27 are accompanied by the moon. If from June 4-19 and June 28-30 there is no moon,” Andi said to CNNIndonesia.comThursday (9/6).

The planets that are parallel and can be seen directly from the Indonesian sky are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn.

“Temporary [untuk melihat] Uranus needs tools such as telescopes or binoculars to see it,” he said.

“All of Indonesia can witness this phenomenon as long as it is free from light pollution, the field of view is free from obstructions such as buildings, trees, mountains and so on and is supported by sunny weather,” Andi continued.

He said the phenomenon of multiplanet conjunction or sky parade is basically the same as other astronomical phenomena. The visible planets can be observed as long as they are above the horizon and planetary light reflected from the sun must be visible without interference / interference from sunlight.

“Therefore, the observation of this phenomenon is not always in the early morning before sunrise, but also after sunset. Since the six planets are currently to the west of the sun, of course these six planets are not visible at dusk but rise earlier before dawn ,” said Andi.

What needs to be understood is that this multiplanetary conjunction phenomenon is different from other astronomical phenomena that have certain times and specific places of observation, such as lunar eclipses, solar eclipses, planetary transits, or planetary occultations by the moon.

“As I explained earlier, as long as there is no interference from sunlight and it is still above the horizon, this multiplanet conjunction phenomenon can still be observed,” he concluded.

Quoted from Live Sciencethe best time to see this celestial phenomenon is about 45 minutes before sunrise.

“You have to set an alarm to see them, but it’s a great time to see the planets in the sky,” said Michelle Nichols, director of public observations at Chicago’s Adler Planetarium.

According to him, the planets will be spread over a vast expanse of sky from east to south. To distinguish them from stars, he suggests looking for steady light. Meanwhile, the twinkling is the star.

“Mercury is furthest east and lower, Venus will be very bright and above it (Mercury) slightly to the right, Mars will be orange in the southeast, Jupiter will be in the upper right, and then Saturn will be in the upper right of Jupiter, slightly to the south,” said Nichols.
