Absenteeism due to illness was at a record high at 6.3 percent

In the first quarter of this year, absenteeism due to illness stood at 6.3 percent, the highest percentage ever recorded. This is according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics. In the same period in 2021, absenteeism was 4.8 percent.

The highest absenteeism was again measured in health care in the first quarter: about 8.9 percent. This means that for every 1000 working days, 89 are absent due to illness. Financial services have the lowest absenteeism rates.

10 percent limit falls

Absenteeism of more than 10 percent was also measured for the first time within an industry or sector.

Within health care, an absenteeism rate of 10.4 percent was found in nursing, care and home care. A year earlier, it was 8.6 percent. In childcare, the absenteeism amounted to 10 percent. Absenteeism rose fastest in this sector: from 6.9 to 10 percent.

The number of sick reporters also increased rapidly among general practitioners and health centers: absenteeism there rose from 5.4 to 9.7 percent.
