There are situations in which there is no end to sadness. Or where the absence of the state places suffering upon suffering. The battle for the end of life in Italy is now made up of stories in which bureaucracy adds insult to injury. It is only 48 hours ago that the sensational choice of Fabio Ridolfi: after having waited in vain to be able to die with assisted suicide, he opened his “room of pain” to the press and televisions to shout, in a metaphorical sense, through the eye pointer of his computer, that he will be sedated to die of hunger and of thirst.
