According to a note from the White House, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will convene its Specialized Vaccines Advisory Committee on June 15 to decide whether to recommend and authorize Pfizer’s vaccines for babies 6 months to 4 years old. (in three doses) and Moderna for children 6 months to 5 years old (in two doses).
This age group is the only one that has not been vaccinated in the United States, as in many countries. The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna alliance assure that their clinical tests were positive at those ages.
In the event of a favorable opinion from that Committee, the FDA may give the green light to the plan. Then, a second committee of experts, this time convened by the entity that brings together the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will in turn deliver its recommendation on June 18 and once its final approval is registered, then can start the immunization campaign.
“While the FDA and CDC conduct their independent review, the (President Joe) Biden administration is preparing for all scenarios, including starting vaccination beginning the week of June 20,” the White House said in a statement. a statement.
He noted that after FDA approval, the government can immediately begin distributing 10 million doses nationwide, adding that “millions more” would follow.
