In 2021, there were 2.9 cases of incapacity for work in the Main-Spessart district due to the confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19 – compared to 2.4 cases of incapacity for work in 2020. This is shown by the current evaluation by AOK Bayern on sick leave for 2021. The following information is taken from a press release by AOK Würzburg : At the same time, respiratory diseases fell sharply overall in the second year of the pandemic. One reason for this could be the corona protection measures: keep your distance, observe hygiene measures, wear a mask – the spread of other pathogens should also have been contained as a result.
In Bavaria, for example, respiratory diseases were no longer the sole main reason for sick leave, but were on par with muscular and skeletal diseases (32 cases of incapacity for work per 100 AOK-insured employees). “In the Main-Spessart district, 35.3 sick reports per 100 AOK-insured employees were for respiratory diseases and 37.5 sick reports for muscular and skeletal diseases,” says Alexander Pröbstle from the AOK in Würzburg. In the entire administrative district of Lower Franconia, 33.7 sick reports per 100 AOK-insured employees were for respiratory diseases and 35.6 sick reports for muscular and skeletal diseases. This puts the city and district of Würzburg below the Bavarian average. However, the districts of Kitzingen and Main-Spessart as well as the district of Lower Franconia are higher.
duration of the respective illness
Looking at the duration of the illness in question, musculoskeletal disorders continue to cause the most lost days of all illness types. Statistically, every AOK-insured worker from the Main-Spessart district was on sick leave for 6.8 days in 2021. 2.4 days of absence resulted from respiratory diseases, 0.44 days of sickness due to proven Covid-19 disease and 3.4 days of sickness due to mental illness.
Overall, in the second year of the pandemic, 2021, fewer AOK-insured employees in the Main-Spessart district reported sick. “The total number of sick notes rose by 4.3 percent compared to the previous year, while the average duration of illness fell by 5.6 percent,” says Alexander Pröbstle. In the district of Main-Spessart, employees with AOK insurance were sick for an average of 20.2 days. For comparison: Overall, every AOK-insured employee in Bavaria was ill for an average of 17.5 calendar days.
